Erno Fisch, born in 1903 in Maramarossziget, was the only Jew in his town who escaped deportation by hiding in the mountains. As he tells the story of his life, what he saw, experienced, and felt, he conjures up a whole century of Central European history, with all the intricate changes of regimes and frontiers. Erno Fisch is one of those very few people who have never fell prey to any regime, any dictatorship, any ideology. During his long life he has always controlled his own fate, preserved his dignity, his autonomy and his humanism.
