Since the 1950's to present day, Italian comedies have presented a humorous commentary of life in the country. A satiric vision which encompases the contradictions and the passions of an Italy going through the disasters of war and lean years after. Or the fervor of economic expansion during the 60's and 70's to the self questionning of these last decades. La Vita é Bella by and with Roberto Benigni demonstrates once again that when one knows how to touch people and make them laugh it is possible to bring about thought and to carry on the essential work of remenbering history.
