Beni More (1919-1963) was one of the most important artist in Cuban music. Today, people like Ibrahim Ferrer - the main character in Wim Wenders's documentary, Buena Vista Social Club -, Juan Formell, Generoso Jimenez, Pio Leyva, 'Chocolate' Armenteros or Irakere's singer recognize his influence and continue to sing his songs. Making the portrait of Beni More who never stopped singing under both Battista and Castro's regime, leads to review both political and cultural history of Cuba. His music was popular, probably because "el son" was deeply inrooted in the Cuban traditions. Beni More's national funeral was comparable to the processions of Hollywood's stars. And according to Pablo Milanes (singer and composer) : "If we consider the personnality of Beni More with a politic point of view, he has represented a cultural resistance in Cuba, opposite to the outside attacks of our music and culture".
